Day 12: new beds

Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year

Few things in the garden stoke the fires of the imagination as hotly as the notion of a newly-defined planting area. First in concept and then marked, carved and dug out upon the land, the power is in the potential – a heady combination of quite literally giving yourself to permission to grow, and the prospect of future glory. As with so much in gardening, half of it is in the intention, and the remainder in the grind (by which I mean, the hard work, rather than that upon which the characters in The Crown might allow their regal tootsies to tread). The former having been floating about this spot for a good few months before I finally got stuck in just before Christmas, the latter will now begin, and what better way to start than with several tonnes of horse poo. Best put my order in – easy, there,  Dobbin... *neighs*
