Day 32: surviving February

Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year

February has a trick up its sleeve; whilst being by all objective measures the shortest month of the year, it somehow contrives to feel the longest. Since the days are getting steadily lighter I’m never sure how it manages to pull off such a feat of ignominy – not that any of the other months would want to learn – but I find the only solution to not wanting to wish away every moment of February, thereby squandering at least one twelfth of each year, is to get out into the garden and become totally absorbed in not-quite-thirty different things – one for each day, and quite probably not particularly glamorous things – so that you arrive in March having spent the previous month in a kind of mindful trance, and with the garden looking so much the better for it. Today – hoiking the couch grass out from the dogwood. Go!
