Day 126: planting combinations

Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year

The flowers have been cosying up to one another, but they needn’t think they’ve gotten away with smooching undetected. Lipstick on the collar told a tale on you, Tulip ‘White Triumphator’ – in this case, a smudge of deep plum transferred during an intimate moment with the shapely Geranium phaeum nextdoor. It’s a salient reminder of the potency of the plant pigments, and puts me in mind of the petal dye shop run by Charlotte Wilden, where the process of getting up-close and personal with flowers is used to magical effect.
