Day 132: scented sentries

Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year

A building without plants by the entrance always seems a little austere – doubly so when it’s a home. From a cheery basket of petunias to a lollipoped bay tree or two, the effort is always worthwhile. The front door of this particular house has upped the game – graced by a pair of sentries who waft clouds of sweet perfume about all who come and go. The winter honeysuckle, which spends much of the year looking anything between non-descript and ropey, is thankfully hidden by the sinuous stems of the wisteria, and just now it’s the latter grabbing all the attention.
