Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year
On and on the garden grows, the sky continuing to irrigate the beds and borders so that the path requires pushing through at one point. Black and white meeting across the turf, the burgeoning Sambucus nigra ‘Eva’ on one side reaching over to shake hands with Achillea ptarmica ‘The Pearl’, white buttonhole pompoms clustered atop tall stems bending under the weight of the fallen rain. This thin-leaved yarrow always has pronounced lean here towards the sun as she skirts the southern edge of the garden before setting in the west and so, if summer rain catches them at the right time, they can be persuaded to arch over to meet their friends on the other side. I like to think there may be an exchange of beneficial insects across the divide – baby ladybirds for lacewing larvae, perhaps. From here, all I see are raindrops.
