Day 357: in the absence of frost

Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year

I’ve been holding out for a frosty end to the year, though other than the dusting we received yesterday, it looks as though I’ll be disappointed. No matter – I’ll happily settle for the festive season that’s simply manages not to be sodden, and even welcome the inevitable mizzle. I’ll count myself lucky if the days feel a bit fresh and able to muster up a little sunshine to highlight the long dead stems of perennial plants, paper seedcases splitting to reveal their precious contents, each fat, bright jewel containing all the information necessary to build a brand new plant, wrapped round with sufficient food to see the infant through the seedling stage. Frost  may come, or it may not, but magic is never absent from the garden.
