Without doubt one of the true survivors, stems of goosegrass, or cleavers, or (my favourite) ‘Sticky Willy’, Gallium aparene, are already emerging from the ground in impressive number. It’s a good idea to control areas of this particular plant now, before it gains strength in the spring and begins clambering through your borders, dragging prized ornamentals to the ground. All parts are particularly high in vitamin C, which is fortunate, as we’ll all be living on weeds soon.
