The beautiful borlotti bean, its white pods and beans splashed liberally with vermillion, is as ornamental in its dotage as its prime. So it would seem from these few that escaped harvest, swaying in the winter breeze from their sympathetically speckled hazel tripods. But it’s January, and the tidying bug is biting, so it’s off to the compost heap with these as I make a note to buy more seeds for this year’s veg plot.
