Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year
It’s easy to take a reliable plant for granted, and I think I’ve been guilty of this with the umbrella tree, Schefflera arboricola. But when so many houseplants can be a little precious (hello, ferns), surely only a pillock will treat a good doers indoors with contempt. The Schefflera is a member of the ivy family Araliaceae, and seems similarly robust, thriving on just the kind of inattention I provide, and rewarding my very occasional ministrations with watering can and leaf-wipes with year-round, verdant glossiness, and the regular appearance of bright green new leaves like little hands, waving back at me.
