Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year
Having extolled the virtues of our wild primrose (Day 72) – which perfectly matched the mood of early March – I’m finding the stronger April light is calling for something a bit more gregarious, and Primula ‘Blue Sapphire’ fits the bill nicely. It’s a blue that harmonises perfectly with those of the Boraginaceae clan right now – the forget-me-nots, green alkanets and pulmonarias – but somehow looks startling mounted atop the very recognisable primrose foliage. And those double flowers have ruffles to die for, should expiring over the sight of particularly froufrou blooms be your thing. You could at the very least allow yourself a delighted, yet demur titter behind your hand.
