Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year
I am not built for heat and so, while I work outside during much of the day, I arrange corners of the house to make me feel cool as soon as I get back in, even though ‘cool’ feels very much a relative term. Houseplants help – it’s not just the effect of their tranquil greens upon the eye, but the moisture they release during the day which can lower the temperature by as much as 10 degrees. As I sit at the table, gazing at an assemblage of Boston fern, alocasia, aspidistra and pals, I murmur chilled thoughts to myself, and it helps. Though, of course, it might just be the ice in my gin.
