Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year
The key, we’re often told, is to learn to live in the moment. Which is all very well, but difficult to achieve for a gardener in late summer when, no matter how full of salvias and big daisies the borders are, there’s always the thought at the back of your mind that almost anything you do from this point on is for next year. The tidying, the planning, the sowing of hardy annuals to overwinter in the cold frame... the list is long, and I have to force myself temporarily to overlook the lavender that needs cutting back, and instead to stare at a zinnia in need of deadheading, and enjoy the nowness of it all.
