Day 335: winter hopes

Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year

If we’ve learnt by now the relative futility of dreaming of a White Christmas, we can at least hope for a frosty winter. And, as the meteorological calendar ticks over to that season, and the mercury dips toward freezing, I think I might be in luck. Everything in the garden comes alive in the frost – first the shock and the shiver as you step out of the back door, deeply inhaling the cold, noting the clean scent of the air, the crisp clarity of each sound and, finally, the transformation of mushy brown beds and borders into something altogether more wonderful, if only fleetingly. Unless we’re in for an unusually cold spell here, it’ll be gone by the time the sun has made its way round the house. But that still gives us the morning in this strange, crystalline land.

A year of garden coaching

I’m very excited about my new venture – it’s a way for me to work with more people than I can physically get around to, helping them to make the very best of their gardens in a way that suits the life they lead. If you’d like to find out more, please click here to book for a January 2020 start.
