Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year
In spite of efforts to the contrary, I can feel the gloom of a damp January tugging at the edges of my thoughts. It’s not that I can’t happily work in a soggy garden, it’s just that it’s a far better experience when you’re not sinking into the ground against a background of greys and drabs. Flicking through the weather app on my phone, I’ve learned to scan for flashes of yellow – there they are, the first two hours of the day. Kettle on, hat, scarf, boots – ooh, trousers, there’s a thought – I don’t want to miss a moment of clear, bright light, and intend to be already wrestling brambles as morning arrives in the garden.
