Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year
Right, enough with the chilly starts. The apple blossom is out – the pear has been in bloom for a while now – and the limited degree of interest I could muster for frosty April mornings is wearing perilously thin. Surely it’s not unreasonable to wish for fruit on my fruit trees, or at least a few tulips that don’t look as though they’ve been whacked about with the Ugly Stick. And so, while we should count ourselves lucky in the UK (it snowed on friends in Ohio this week) I think we’re now quite ready for spring to manifest in all its fulness, leaving a week for April to get its act together before May demonstrates how it’s done, with paeonies and cow parsley.
