Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year
The thin blue line that runs tentatively through the gardening year has experienced an interruption here. Typically by now the Spanish bluebells would be in flower – we tolerate them in small numbers for services to the colour wheel – but so far nothing but big, brutish leaves. The baton having been dropped after the last of the scilla went over, it’s fallen to forget-me-nots to bring the blue notes back and, though pockets are appearing, they seem to be taking a while to get into their stride. I can’t quite decide if I’m getting more impatient, or if things are just taking a little longer this year. Perhaps it’s a little of both.
