Day 123: black currant in bloom

Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year

Things are happening on the blackcurrant, the flowers appear to have survived the strange April weather, and in this we’re fortunate since we left them to deal with the frosts by themselves. Perhaps sitting on a slight incline and partly sheltered by a low box hedge has helped to keep the coldest of the air at bay, though the knowledge of how cold air sits and pools in different spots in the garden will, I’m sure, ever remain something of a dark and mysterious art to me. So, flowers: tick. Soon, to keep the birds off the fruit.
