Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year
If any colours could be said to ZING in the garden in June, it’s neon pink and chartreuse green – the kind of optical assault you get from the lychnis and euphorbia combination forming the backdrop to Day 164’s gruesome post with the white crab spider and her dinner. Of the two, the latter is always guaranteed to send my pulse racing, but while the euphorbias have been shining their limey light about the garden for weeks now, the Lady’s Mantle (Alchemilla mollis) is just getting going, bulking out the plantings with great billowing clouds of bright green. If the heat continues unabated, the first flush will be over in no time, but a prompt cutting back will ensure a second wave before summer’s out.
