Day 266: bog sage at Chelsea

Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year

Nothing bog standard about the show gardens at Chelsea Flower Show this year – bog sage, though (Salvia uliginosa), was popping up everywhere. There’s usually one or two flowers that echo throughout the show ground and, when Chelsea is occupying its usual spot in the calendar, lupins, paeonies and cow parsley often provide that continuity between very different gardens. In 2021, and much later in the season, the role fell to this salvia and the many varieties of persicaria that are looking perky as summer turns to autumn. Here’s that incomparable bright, bog sage blue on Thomas Hoblyn’s Secret Garden-inspired creation for the jewellery company Boodles.
