Day 285: the essential edge

Having inadvertently become a champion for a kind of wildlife-friendly, slightly chaotic look to the garden, I feel a confession is in order. Because however fond I am of seeing things claiming rather more than their allotted space, clambering over their neighbours and flopping over paths, I can’t really cope with it unless I know that, underneath it all, there are some good strong lines. Others might be able to achieve a smoothly blended transition, but not I – ever a source of fascination for me, in this case, an edge also an essential coping mechanism. Even if, for much of the year, it’s completely hidden.
