Day 324: foxglove preparation

Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year

Foxgloves know all about preparation – the biennial ones at least, like our bog standard Digitalis purpurea that, for all the wonderful varieties and different species, I still think it’s hard to beat. Of course, all biennials spend the previous season in training for the main event, but I’m particularly impressed by foxgloves that have seeded themselves into a corner of the veg garden. If the shear volume of foliage they’ve put on over the past few weeks has any correlation to their energy they intend to devote to flowering, we’re in for quite a display next June.
