Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year
Probably the closest you’ll get to having a bush full of snowdrops in summer, that’s Fuchsia ‘Hawkshead’ for you. In shape the flowers are not dissimilar from its near relative Fuchsia magellanica ‘Riccartonii’ (Day 237), and indeed the plant itself has a similar, graceful arching habit, but in colour all parts are bright white, with a hint of green at the tips. What makes it most useful – other than its hardiness and general nonchalance regarding soil type – is the fact that, while it will cope in full sun, it will also bloom happily in the shade.
