Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year
Is it possible my ruby chard will remain unslugmunched for the duration of the colder months? I do hope so. This is one of the aesthetic vegetables that really make the kitchen garden sing with colour, texture and structure – posh Tuscan black kale Cavalo nero is another, but that seems rarely troubled by the slimey ones. There’s still time in September to sow a batch of chard under cover, so it’s time to look out some seeds (for some reason, there’s always chard and kale in my seed tins, no matter how much I sow. It’s almost magical).
