Day 305: biscuit tones

Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year

There’s danger, I realise, in clamouring for the bright colours of autumn (I’ve been getting impatient this year), lest you miss the subtler hues and textures that contribute just as much to the season. The dark stems and pale yellows of eupatorium leaves and the biscuity tones of their furry seed heads, or the feathery beiges of miscanthus grasses waving in the wind. Like waiting with camera on tripod for a glowing sunrise, only to find the morning dawning grey and overcast, you move from frustration, through disappointment, to a resolve to make the best of what you have, before coming to realise – like an idiot – how nearly you had overlooked a more quiet beauty.
