Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year
Green roofs have gained popularity over the past decade or so, and rightly so – what’s not to love about increasing biodiversity while greening the built environment? And with companies popping up everywhere offering sedum roof trays, modules and blankets by the yard, you could be forgiven for thinking that covering your home in succulents was a particularly 21st century invention. Step forward the house leek (Sempervivum spp.), adorning tiles since... well, I’m not sure quite when, but a long-held traditional belief was that growing these succulents on your roof would protect your property from both fire and lightning. Every home should have one.
