Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year
At a time where almost nothing in our daily experience seems clear cut – even the seasons seem to merge into a confounding jumble - the appeal of a neat edge is hard to over-state. This past week has seen me barrowing several tonnes of manure about the garden, so I think I’m owed a moment to stand and admire the unequivocal frontier between lawn and mulch. It’s a feeling to savour – that alluring illusion of control we allow ourselves to believe as we spend the winter digging out and tying in, cutting back and generally imposing ourselves upon the space. Unambiguous beginnings and clear-cut endings, and that’s how things will stay until the garden begins to think about growing again.
