The goat willow (Salix caprea) is bang on trend for Spring/Summer 2021. Every year the people at Pantone, the company responsible for colour matching across the design world, name the colour that will be dominating these industries for the next twelve months. The Color of the Year 2021 is not a single shade but a pairing of grey and yellow (PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Grey + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating, to be precise) and as I peer hopefully at the furry buds looking for signs of the flowers that will bring hungry queen bumblebees from all around, I can’t help but wonder if someone who has responsiblity for these things found their inspiration in a pot full of pussy willow stems.
