Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year
A small army of herbaceous cuttings – mostly Erysimum ‘Bowles Mauve’ – is filling out on the greenhouse staging, having put on a burst of growth in the last week. In spite of the winds and occasional showers, the sun’s been strong enough to encourage a late winter spurt and they all need a feed and a pinching out of shoots to get them ready for planting in the beds. It’s just as well – we find perennial wallflowers short-lived here on the rich soil, and a recent spell of unusually cold nights has not been kind to those in the garden.
