Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year
‘Better late than never’ is an epithet whose veracity I’m sure to be testing over the coming weeks, having only just got my first seed order for the year in. Though it mostly consists of zinnias and cosmos – those cheery, summer-flowering Mexican daisies that don’t demand an early sowing – I find myself hoping that the postman won’t keep me waiting overlong as the line between relaxed and panicked begins to look vanishingly slim. But with more frosts due, I reckon we’re about two weeks behind in the garden and the agronomist friend to whose garden we popped round for tea this afternoon agrees that it’s about the same in the field. Let’s hope the zinnias aren’t too bent on punctuality.
