Day 103: flexing pelargoniums

Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year

Bright, eager sunlight, streaming through the glass – uncomfortably warm on my left side and causing me to squint at the computer screen – banishing memories of the snow flurries that began the week. April at its mercurial best, but with temperatures persistently cooler than I ever recall them being at this time of year, and certainly too great a chance of frost for me to risk turfing the pelargoniums out of the house. They’re filling out on their shelf in front of the window, stretching, flexing, turning themselves so as to take full advantage of every photon. I should really start to pinch out the tops so as to encourage them to grow low and stocky, but then they really will be elbowing each other aside for space.
