Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year
Greeting old friends you’ve not seen in the garden since before the winter is always an occasion for joy, though this time tempered with an extra layer of emotion. Relief certainly, but also something else... let’s call it embarrassment, seasoned with just a sprinkling of shame. A lively domestic discussion occurred during an early spring clear-up; one of us had cleared up a little enthusiastically, apparently consigning the last remaining plantlet grown on from cuttings of Salvia involucrata 'Hadspen' (a giant, pink-flowered sage, at least five feet high when mature) to the compost. Or so we’d thought. Only here it is today, lurking unharmed under the forget-me-nots. One of us is having humble pie for dinner.
