Day 278: October veg swap

Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year

Nothing quite says ‘October’ like a solitary, overgrown courgette (marrow) in a soggy veg patch under a gloomy sky. Well, actually a bright golden late afternoon with crunchy leaves and the sun sparkling from the faint drizzle does the job just as well – October’s a month of contrasts. But we’ve yet to have any of that kind of thing, so we’ll work with what we’ve got, and what we’ve got is a changing of the guard in the kitchen area, a clearing away of the remants of summer ingredients and a bedding in of winter brassicas, chicories, and salads under cloches. But before we get to that, a moment to admire those stripes on the cocozelle courgette.
